Charlotte Emerson was a survivor of the outbreak in What Remains. She was a security guard in Monroe.

What We Become

Valley Station, Kentucky

Charlotte was an English Student at Northwestern University and was a drummer for a local punk band called "Political Machine" along with her friend and Guitarist Emily Warren and Lead Singer Stephanie Lloyd.

She ended up in Valley Station while attempting to travel home from Chicago where she ended up at the Crossroads Mall. She learned of her Father's death and decided to stick around the mall for safety, where she operated a scout before becoming the mall's quartermaster and radio operator for the mall group.

Charlotte kept tabs on local groups in the area, writing up reports and attempting to arrange trade deals to keep the mall group supplied, however, she ended up fleeing the mall when it became clear to her that Miles was losing his mind and she didn't want to be on the chopping block. She took her car and fled.

She eventually ended up in Chicago again, debating what to do, and decided to look for the corpse of her girlfriend. The ending was left ambiguous whether she found anything.

In Between Series

Charlotte wandered around the United States for a time, mostly surviving on her own and on occasion with other survivors. She met up with a group heading up the eastern seaboard, where she was following up on the location several of her friends left to when she split in West Point. She eventually ended in Monroe, New York, where she ended up staying and taking on a role with Monroe Security.

Appearances

Season 1

Charlotte looks aged and weathered, however, her style has changed significantly in the past 12 years. She wears a dirty white dress shirt with body armor over it, a security armband and scarf. She wears a holster on her pants. On colder days, Charlotte wears a padded black jacket.

Trivia

• Compared to her Appearance in What We Become, Charlotte has aged significantly.
• In her home, the tattered remains of her jean jacket she wore in What We Become can be seen.
• Charlotte has a new tattoo on her neck reading "RIP Steph."
• Charlotte still uses the Five-Seven Pistol she acquired from the late Cody Shepard. While looking a bit more weathered, it is clearly the same gun.
• Charlotte is the first human character killed in Season 1 of What Remains and the first returning human character from What We Become to die.
