"FOR MONROE!"
Conrad Miller's last words to Larue Monroe before he is killed.[src]

Conrad Miller, affectionately referred to as Connie is a former antagonist, main character and survivor of the outbreak in GWR's What Remains. He is a resident and a construction crewman of Monroe. Following the bombings, Conrad was responsible for the organization and assassination of George Dow intending to spark a war between the Coalition and Brighton. He served as the secondary antagonist for the first half of Season 1.

Overview[]

Prior to the events of the bombings, Conrad is shown to be an extremely collected and level-headed man, showing his inclination to lean toward diplomacy as opposed to violence. He specifically chose to open the Whiskey Rose because it causes him little stress, and negates his exposure outside the walls. He is shown to be particularly close to Avery Dekker and her children, apparently having worked with them at some point in the past as a scout prior to his shift to construction work and managing his bar.

A month after the bombing, and deaths of Arlo Gray, Bonnie Mills, Julian Carmichael-Ortiz and over thirty other residents of Monroe, Conrad undergoes a change in personality. He is shown to be more paranoid, and outright distrustful of the Coalition, who was thought to be responsible, and the new leadership in Monroe. As his presence started to become more felt in town, Conrad became more and more violent, often getting into verbal and physical fights with members of the Coalition and the Ex-Ranger, Julianne Lynch, whose Ranger Unit was directly assumed to have played some part in the bombing.

Up until his death, Conrad progressively slipped into paranoid insanity, losing friends and family due to his behavior. He ended up becoming a violent extremist with goals to see the downfall of both the Coalition and Brighton and the independent superiority of Monroe. He was responsible for organizing the assassination of George Dow and his entire Ranger unit. Even in his final moments, Conrad showed his unwaveringness to his cause, pulling a gun on Larue Monroe and causing the subsequent death of Julianne Lynch and himself. To this day, old-blood in Monroe still remember him and his actions, some showing reverence for them, some not.

Pre-Apocalypse[]

Charleston, South Carolina[]

Conrad grew up in Charleston, South Carolina, although not much is known about his early life. He experienced an average life where he grew to become a hard-working and practical man acquiring skills ranging from construction, craftsmanship, and welding. He never married and focused exclusively on his career.

Post-Apocalypse[]

Monroe County, New York[]

At some point in the apocalypse, Conrad somehow came into contact with a community called Monroe, which he subsequently joined upon where he was appointed as one of the scouts and later a construction crewman. During his time there, Conrad became a respected member of the town and later opened a bar called the Whiskey Rose.
